Things to Include in Your Website Design
Website design is the critical part of establishing an online business. The website design has to be just right or it will run customers off instead of making them stay. You will need to know what things people like to see on web pages and what things make them angry. Once a person lands on a web page they will generally give the page seven seconds of their time and if they do not find what they want they will leave, never to return. First impressions are the most important thing you have going for you. When you start your website design remembers the K.I.S.S. saying of "keep it simple stupid". You want the pages to be simple to understand, simple to navigate, and pleasant to look at. So do not attempt to cram in as many flashy software applications as possible, just stick to informing the visitor about the purpose of the site. Your landing page should include:A welcoming statement or article that tells the visitor what they can expect from the site. Sentences should not have more than seventy five words in them so they do not appear intimidating when people see them. There should be a table of contents in the form of a list on the sidebar of the page, or a drop down menu. This table of contents should explain what each of the pages that make up the site contain and which page will have things like your contact information.
In your website design you should think about what the average person will be doing while they are on your pages. If your site is informational then the average visitor will likely be reading articles about the subject you built the pages around. Make certain that all articles are easy to understand, but written in an intelligent and engaging manner. You do not want the visitor to need to look up every other word in order to get the meaning of the article, but you also do not want to insult their intelligence.Your website design Egypt will need to have shopping cart software if you are selling anything from your pages. Be sure that you choose software that is fairly easy to operate or your customers could become frustrated and not return. The pages should have pictures and sound where applicable. People like to see pictures of items and not just read descriptions. Even if you are establishing web pages that are informative you should include some pictures or slide shows that allow the visitor to have a visual experience while they are there.
Definition of Responsive Web Design
What is responsive web design? In essence it is when the design of the website responds to the dimensions of the screen. In other words, a website built to be responsive, takes note of the height and width of the screen (actually, the viewable area is usually a browser window, as in Internet Explorer), and adjusts the web page layout to fit the viewable area appropriately (according to what the web designer or creative director deem appropriate).Although this is most commonly used in web layouts, responsive web design can go well beyond layouts. Primarily achieved using code referred to as media queries (see my article The Media Query), responsive web design empowers you to produce web pages that are independent of the viewable area.
A good usage example of this would be in the case of a website that is optimized to suit mobile devices as well as desktop computers, wherein the links in the top menu would be more workable repositioned as a vertical list, rather than a horizontal bar going across. This sort of detail is supported by responsive web design. If you have a grid in your layout where 10 thumbnails fit nicely across on a regular desktop computer monitor, those thumbnails would have to be awful small to fit 10 across on an iPad or iPhone. With a responsive design you can change it so that if the width of the device is as short as an iPad, it only places 7 thumbnails across. Then, perhaps 4 across for an iPhone.A lot of website contact forms are accompanied with a sidebar area (or two) for up-sale and other purposes. This is great for a desktop computer, but on a smart phone, by default, the form and the sidebar both are shrunken down too small to read. With responsive web design the form can be made to fill the screen and the sidebar can be hidden, placed underneath, "replaced" by another smaller version with the same message, almost anything is possible.
For a long time, there have been web page layouts that flex to the size (usually the width, specifically) of the browsers window, known as liquid layouts. These are still in use today, although they`ve never been as common as the typical fixed layout you`ll find on most websites (where the layout remains the same, regardless of the width of the viewable area). Liquid layouts are very commonly used for mobile devices, as they can be counted upon to fit every mobile screen size. This sort of layout is usually kept very simple, like a grid of thumbnails or a list of button. But if one takes that same layout and lets it span the width of a desktop monitor, it is usually found to be too sparse, too stretched or everything is oversized.Responsive web designer Egypt includes taking advantage of both liquid and fixed layouts, to accommodate for all screen sizes.
Successful Web Design For Local Businesses in Egypt
Egypt`s web design market, as an example for developing internet markets, holds much opportunity for graphic designers and/or web developers who are ready to embrace skills that are beyond their discipline i.e. graphic design or programming alone. My observation of the local Egyptian internet market over the past 5 years has led me to believe that in order to meet Egyptian businesses website needs, a web design firm or freelance web designer should combine three critical disciplines, namely graphic design, web developing and business-marketing.Previously, up to 2 years ago, Egypt`s internet market was dominated by pure web programmers, masters of code, but who retained knowledge of graphic design and even less of business and marketing communication skills. The result was a plethora of websites, that visually look quite naïve, no matter how quick they loaded or how tight their code was. Egyptian businesses approved because there were little other options
This led up to the arrival of a young generation of graphic designers who expanded their graphic skills to enter the internet market. Finally, websites had visual appeal, sometimes backed by audio, with the elements harmoniously laid out. A feast for the eye, but again, the code was not search engine friendly (i.e. potential customers could not find the site using key words or phrases), and the business communication remained lacking as web site structure, text and images were left to the clients to come up with. The result is great looking sites that would entertain but not sell.So unless your web site is a showcase for art and images, what the market severely misses is not just a good copywriter or journalist, but a designer who approaches the site from a business point of view. Who is the target customer, to what extend is he willing to wait for a fancy web design Egypt to load, what is the professional write up of all the text, what images would the customer emotionally connect with. These are just some elements that business-marketers would address.
